#### Objective:
Students will be able to identify and name basic human body parts and understand their basic functions.
#### Materials:
- Poster of a human body (child-friendly illustrations)
- Sticky notes
- Markers
- Flashcards with body parts and their functions
- "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" song (audio or video)
- Coloring worksheets of a human body
- “Simon Says” game instructions
#### Introduction (10 minutes):
1. **Greeting & Agenda Overview:**
- Greet the students and explain that today’s lesson will be about basic human body parts.
- Show them the agenda on the board.
2. **Engage:**
- Ask students to point to their head, shoulders, knees, and toes to assess prior knowledge.
- Explain that they will learn more about the parts of the body and what they do.
#### Direct Instruction (15 minutes):
1. **Poster Interaction:**
- Display the human body poster and use stickers or a pointer to identify each part: head, shoulders, arms, hands, fingers, legs, knees, feet, toes.
- Briefly discuss the function of each part. For example:
- Head: Contains our brain and helps us think.
- Hands: Help us hold things.
- Legs: Help us walk.
2. **Flashcards Activity:**
- Show flashcards one by one and have students repeat the name and function of each body part after you.
- Engage in a brief Q&A to ensure understanding.
#### Guided Practice (10 minutes):
1. **"Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" Song:**
- Play the song and encourage students to sing along and touch the corresponding body parts.
- Repeat to reinforce learning and keep the activity engaging.
#### Independent Practice (15 minutes):
1. **Coloring Activity:**
- Distribute coloring worksheets of a human body.
- Instruct students to color the different parts of the body using specific colors for each part (e.g., blue for legs, red for arms).
2. **Labeling Activity:**
- Once their pictures are colored, give students sticky notes or small labels to write the names of the body parts and attach them to the correct parts on their coloring sheet.
#### Group Activity (10 minutes):
1. **“Simon Says” Game:**
- Lead the students in a game of “Simon Says,” using commands related to body parts (e.g., "Simon says touch your nose").
#### Conclusion (10 minutes):
1. **Review:**
- Ask the students questions about what they learned (e.g., "Can someone tell me what we use our hands for?").
- Reinforce by showing the posters and flashcards again briefly.
2. **Wrap-Up:**
- Congratulate the students on their learning and participation.
- Explain that they can continue to practice at home by singing the song or playing games with their family.
#### Assessment:
- Observe students during the "Simon Says" game and the labeling activity.
- Assess their ability to correctly name and identify the parts of the body.
### Extensions:
1. **Home Activity:**
- Send students home with a small booklet containing pictures of body parts and ask them to practice with their family.
2. **Integration with Other Subjects:**
- Create a mini-writing assignment where students draw a picture of themselves and write a sentence about what they can do with each body part (e.g., "I can walk with my legs").
#### Follow-Up:
- Repeat the song and “Simon Says” in future lessons as a warm-up to reinforce learning.
- Introduce more detailed functions of each body part in subsequent lessons as appropriate for this grade level.
Always remember to keep the session interactive and encourage lots of participation from the students to keep them engaged!
